Aussie Star Cherneka Johnson Retains Undisputed Titles After Gritty World Championship Battle

Australian boxing star Cherneka Johnson successfully defended her undisputed bantamweight world titles, emerging victorious via a clear unanimous decision over Amanda Galle in a brutal, blood-soaked encounter on the undercard of Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua in Miami, Florida.

Headlining the preliminary card, Johnson delivered a composed yet aggressive performance across the 10-round contest, earning the judges’ approval with scorecards reading 99–91, 98–92, and 97–93. From the opening bell, both fighters engaged in a fierce exchange, with each sustaining cuts within the first two rounds as Johnson imposed her trademark pressure and forward movement.

Midway through the third round, the intensity of the bout forced the referee to pause the action and summon the ringside doctor to assess a deep cut above Galle’s eye. The Canadian challenger was ultimately cleared to continue, and the fight resumed at a relentless pace.

Johnson consistently landed the cleaner and more effective punches through the middle rounds, while her corner urged her to stay disciplined and avoid unnecessary counters. Despite a determined push from Galle during the championship rounds, Johnson’s control, accuracy, and ring awareness proved decisive.

“I was still confident I was winning all the rounds,” Johnson said after the fight. “I didn’t get the job done as early as we planned, but we still got the job done. I was bleeding first, and then I saw her bleeding and the blood all over the ring, and I thought, here we go—another bloodbath. I’ve been here before, and I love it.”

With the win, Johnson improves her professional record to 19–2, further solidifying her status as one of the elite fighters in women’s boxing. The 30-year-old, born in New Zealand and proudly representing Australia, continues her rapid rise on the global stage.

Earlier this year, Johnson made history by becoming Australia’s first undisputed world champion in the four-belt era, following her victory over Shurretta Metcalf in New York.

For Galle, the defeat marks the first loss of her professional career, moving her record to 12–1, after a courageous challenge against one of the division’s best.
