It was supposed to be just another arvo crawl down Guildford Road – maybe a few honks, maybe a tradie spilling his coffee – but instead, Perth’s peak hour turned deadly when an off-road motorbike rider collided with a Toyota Yaris in Bassendean.

What Happened?

According to 7News, the accident occurred around 5:30 pm Tuesday, when the 28-year-old man’s dirt bike collided with a silver Toyota Yaris at the intersection of Guildford Road and North Road, not far from the beloved Bassendean Oval – home of snag rolls and footy weekends.

Emergency crews sprinted to the scene near Burk petrol station, but tragically, the rider was declared dead on site. The Yaris driver, a 52-year-old woman, thankfully walked away without a scratch – though likely shaken more than a Bunnings sausage on a windy day.

Eyewitness Accounts

“It was so sad seeing them work on the man,” one motorist told police via Facebook. “All you could do was pray. May he rest in eternal peace.”

Aftermath

Traffic on Guildford Road turned into a nightmare of honking, hazard lights, and confused GPS reroutes, with the road closed in both directions for hours. Main Roads WA confirmed by Wednesday morning the scene was cleared and traffic was once again flowing—Perth-style, which is to say barely.

Major Crash investigators have launched a formal probe and are calling for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers.
